Story Outline

Writing Shed let’s you create an outline for each story. Outlines consist of:

• Synopsis of the story

• Characters in the story

• Location(s) where events happen in the story

Making sure you have your first draft selected look at the buttons in the toolbar. You should see these two (among others):

Open outliner:

Click on the  Outliner  button. The typing are will be replaced by the outliner, which looks like this:

Clicking on the  Outliner  button will restore the typing area.

At the top of the central pane you will see three tabs:

• Synopsis

• Characters

• Locations

Clicking on any of these will display outlining controls for the corresponding aspect of the scene’s outline. At the moment you are looking at the synopsis. Below these tabs are three more tabs:

• Role where you can add details of the role played by the story

• Action where you can describe the action taking place

• Notes where you can add any other notes

Below these tabs there is a an area where you enter the text for the selected outline attribute. 

Note there is no need to save anything you type here. Saving is automatic.

If you click on the  Characters  tab the panel will change to the following:

This tab lets you add and remove characters. You can also use the five tabs to provide details of various character attributes.

If you click on the  Locations  tab the panel will change to the following:

This tab lets you add and remove locations. You can also use the five tabs to provide details of various location attributes.
